SOUTH INDIAN MANDOLIN

Writer: RIAFCRIAFC

The soulful sounds of South Indian mandolin, featuring Sreeusha and Sireesha, self-taught sisters popularly known as the Mandolin Sisters, and Uppalapu Srinivas, the child prodigy who at the age of nine introduced the mandolin into the carnatic tradition (something that normally takes generations), all to a backdrop of field recordings made on location in India by World Listener. As always, you can expect a few brief detours along the way, including a group of children practicing a carnatic song at school, some loud bus music, and a wonderful Tamil radio collage from the LP Bats in the Temple by Robert Millis.
